How to make your own iPad micro SIM
Please read our disclaimer* before carrying out this tutorial. Despite the 3G version of the iPad being sold unlocked, it requires a whole new type of SIM card, a MicroSIM.
Traditional SIMs measure 15 x 25mm and have that angled corner. The new micro-SIM is officially 12 x 15mm. That’s effectively the size of just the normal SIM contact area.
1. Here’s a traditional SIM and its measurements, the only working area is the metal contacts.

2. This is the same SIM with the micro-SIM specifications overlaid. You can use this to trim yours down to size.

3. Cut your SIM down to size…

4. …and now it’s ready to pop in to your iPad.
Note: AT&T’s version of the micro-SIM appears to be around 13.5 x 16.5mm – enough to give the original contact area 1.1mm clearance along the bottom and left edge and 1.7mm along the top and right area – so it may be worth holding off on the scissors until we get our hands on an iPad and check the correct dimensions.

I want to use my MicroSIM in my iPhone and my iPad
To reverse the procedure above is super simple with a MicroSIM adapter (available from MicroSIM shop).
The MicroSIM adapter allows you to use your existing MicroSIM (or homemade one) and pop it back in your iPhone. This is ideal if you want to share one SIM between your iPhone and iPad.
MicroSIM Adapers cost just $5 each inc free shipping worldwide.

Nice tutorial, although I would personally find it hard to do.
I quite like the cutters available for sale.
so far i destroyed 2 regular sims in trying to make micro sim..ended up ordering one from Vodafone and it arrived just in time.
Hi.Cut u'r sim with cutters. Great and right cut.
U can find the cutters and adapters(made in Germany) on http://www.microsim-solutions.com
Enjoy.
Then Why can`t I just cut my SIM with a Scissors or Nail Cutter ? very simple answer, iPad & iPhone 4 comes with a SIM tray with a clip that clicks at both egdes to hold the SIM card together.. meaning that the MicroSIM inserted must be precise and accurate size, no room for error and that is why you Must cut with a special tool.
Another reason why it is important to use MicroSIM cutter to cut your tools is because you can always restore your cut SIM to normal SIM with MicroSIM to normal SIM adaptor. a SIM cut with scissors can NEVER be restored if you ever wish to use that SIM in another phone.

Great discount for microSIM adapter! You deserve these!
Big discount + high quality genuine microSIM adapter equals outstanding privilege and benefits.
My friend Mike has bought his MicroSim adapter from a cheap shop for only 2.99. However, what he got was a cheap Chinese replicate which was basically a plastic SIM card with a hole for the Micro Sim. What happened? Once he put the Sim with the adapter into his iPhone 3G it bent and damaged the insertion slot. Now I ask you is this worth for you or would you rather spend a little more and get the orginial GERMAN PATENTED MicroSIM ADAPTER? As far as I know only http://www.microsimdiscount.com and http://www.microsim-shop.com are selling them. Check out both stores, microsimdiscount.com is a little cheaper and delivers via airmail wordwide. Cheers, Robert

Micro Sim Cutters are easier to use, with scissors. high chances are that you will end up in faulty sim or improper sizes. Cutters are cheap and can be bought under £10. Only thing to be taken care with cutter is that you don’t cut your hands (Very easy if little careless).
