Apple’s online user interface documents hint that the iPad may also get a Retina display. 9to5Mac notes that naming convention for iPhone 4 icons uses @2x to denote the higher resolution icons:
Interestingly the iPad user interface documents refer to the inclusion of a higher resolution icon with a similar convention of @2x-ipad
