iFixit has brought its free repair guides to the iPad in the form of a native app, Repair Manual. The utility provides access to thousands of guides for MacBooks, iOS devices, game consoles, a wide variety of digital cameras, and hundreds of cell phones. Users can view step-by-step instructions for disassembly and component replacement, with individual guides focused on specific problems. Like iFixit’s website, the app pairs high-resolution images with each step. Swipe gestures move forward or back through each step of the process, while pinch and tap gestures zoom in for a closer look at each image. Repair Manual is now available as a free app on the App Store. The utility is open source and ad-free, supported by sales from iFixit’s large inventory of parts and specialized tools.
