DIY iFridge with FridgePad

I have to say this is one accessory that I’ve been waiting to get my hands on for quite some time now. Since I was a kid I’ve dreamt of wall mounted computer screens around my house that looked very ‘star trek’… Well thanks to the new magnet based fridge mount from FridgePad, finally my dreams have come true.

The FridgePad is a very simple device, it’s a big magnet, attached to a slim iPad mount that enables your iPad to click in and out firmly and tightly. There are so many things that ‘could’ go wrong with a design like this. The magnet could be too weak, it could lift from the mount, or it could quite simply not hold the iPad well enough… All of these outcomes would result in your lovely glass fronted iPad shattering on your kitchen tiled floor.

Thankfully, despite my best efforts, the FridgePad held my iPad so tightly even I struggled to ‘easily’ remove it from my fridge which was fantastically reassuring.

So how does it work? Well, the FridgePad is made up of three main parts, the magnet, the mount and the clasp.

The magnet as you can see, nearly covers the entire back of the mount, and I’m sure if I tried I could hang of it myself, it’s that strong! To release the device you simply slide your finger under the groove and with all your might lift it up, once the magnet is not 100% flush with your fridge it comes off nice and easily.

8 screws hold the 4 mount clasps in place. These are ‘hands’ that hold all 4 corners of your iPad snuggly and keep it well and truly in place whilst it’s vertical.

Clipping the iPad in to the mount requires some force, but again, this is not a concern, as I’d much rather it took a little more effort to squeeze the iPad in to the mount than not. Everything about the FridgePad is sturdy and tough. I had no concerns about going out for the day whilst leaving my iPad mounted on the fridge.

Once the iPad is clipped in to the FridgePad you can then attach it to your fridge. There is something very cool about using a screen on your fridge whilst standing. I finally feel like I am in 2011.
The FridgePad gets two big thumbs up from us and is available for £34.99 (GBP) from http://www.woodforddesign.com
UPDATE: The FridgePad is now available for both iPad and iPad 2.
