How to update your iPad without a PC

ipad-ota.jpg

You may or may not realise it, but after upgrading to iOS 5, you’ll never need to plug your iPad in to a Mac or PC to upgrade to the next update. Apple pushed out iOS 5.0.1 to users Thursday, following weeks of complaints over lower-than-expected battery life. By delivering updates OTA, users don’t have to worry about connecting to a computer or iTunes to get the latest software. As long as an iOS device is connected to Wi-Fi and has at least 50% battery life (or is plugged into a power outlet), it can receive the update, no computer required.

How to upgrade

  1. Goto Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Click on Software Update
  4. Click Download and Install

The 40Mb download should take no more than 5 minutes on WiFi.

We read the app reviews at iPad Instructions Guide
before purchasing anything new for our iPad 2. There are tips and tricks for
the iPad in their video download sections that work pretty well.  I’m not sure if this one has been reviewed
    there however.
